As young girls, twin sisters Amber and Yarrow became immersed them into the worlds of baking and crafting through their grandmother, and spent time sewing and decorating cakes together.
Their company, Tootsie Bluffins is a culmination of their fondest childhood memories, their never-ending love for the holidays, and their desire to serve their community.
They make gluten-free cupcakes that have built a loyal fan base in Northern Michigan. Some of their flavors include: strawberry rhubarb crumble, orange spice, lemon earl grey, carrot chai and more!
Before it became a full-fledged business, Tootsie Bluffins started off selling custom Christmas stockings and baked goods to spread some cheer throughout the holiday season.
As for the name the credit goes to their older brother Claus Newell, who sustained a traumatic brain injury in 2014. While the sisters were brainstorming names for their business, Claus pitched “Tootsie Bluffins” and the name stuck.
With a $10,000 grant from Division of Indian and Native American Programs of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the sisters covered their startup costs and now have cupcakes available at the Harbor Springs Farmers Market and several cafes in Northern Michigan.
Not only do they sell cupcakes, they also offer catering. Customers can order either cupcakes, single-tier cakes, multi-tier cakes, and other tasty treats that are perfect for any occasion.
You can find a full list of their baked goods on their website, as well as see examples of their decorating skills on their Facebook page.
Tribal Business News also did an article on them earlier this year. You can find it here.
