The Washington State Employment Security Department has a program called SharedWork, which is an opt-in program that helps stabilize operations of most businesses during temporary economic setbacks. Employers keep their workforce intact by temporarily reducing hours to save payroll costs and keep the business operating. The program pays employees a prorated percentage of unemployment insurance benefits. Eligibility is open to most business and industries.
